Level Crossing Projects
The Starbuck Group takes pride in its active participation in the Victorian Government’s initiative to eliminate 110 hazardous and congested level crossings throughout Melbourne. We have contributed to multiple level crossing removal projects across the state, offering both excavation and material haulage solutions. Below are just a few of the projects we’ve had the privilege to be a part of.
High Street, Reservoir
At High Street, Reservoir, the Starbuck Group was tasked with several key responsibilities. These included the construction of bridge abutments, importation of quarry products and structural fill, as well as the successful removal and importation of formation materials to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Glenroy Road, Glenroy
The Starbuck Group was involved in the successful execution of the bulk earthworks load out for the Glenroy Level Crossing Removal, which amounted to 50,000m3 of exported and imported material.
Preston Level Crossing Removal Project (Cramer Street, Murray Road & Oakover Road)
The Starbuck Group was involved in earthworks at three sites for the Preston Level Crossing Removal Project. We oversaw pad construction at all three locations and managed the importation of rock. Specifically, at the Murray Road site, we handled the importation of abutments, along with crushed rock importation and the completion of crane pads.
Among various others, including:
- Keon Parade, Reservoir
- Munro Street, Coburg
- Reynard Street, Coburg
- Bell Street, Coburg
- Station Street, Seaford
- Station Street, Aspendale
- Greens Road, Dandenong South
- Abbotts Road, Dandenong South
- Lower Plenty Road, Rosanna
- Camp Road, Campbellfield
- Buckley Street, Essendon
Hurstbridge Line Duplication
The Starbuck Group was appointed to work on the Hurstbridge Line Duplication project, specifically the Greensborough to Montmorency section as part of Victoria’s Big Build, Level Crossing Removal Program.
The project was executed by an alliance including Acciona, Coleman Rail, WSP, and Metro Trains Melbourne. It aimed to duplicate approximately three kilometres of track between Greensborough and Montmorency, and 1.5 kilometres between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen.
Pre-occupation works involved carting 6,500 tons of quarry materials in holding yards in preparation for occupation works. Occupation works commenced in March 2023, with round-the-clock activities throughout. This phase included removing existing track formations from Greensborough Station to Para Road overpass, disposing of 46,000 tonne of rail ballast and clean fill, and importing structural fill, bottom ballast, and top ballast for reformation of approximately 2 kilometres of duplicated train lines.
Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including an unusually wet March and April, the project continued. By the end of April 2023, trains were running along the new duplicated track and servicing the new stations.
